WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST VISIT
Your first visit will take approximately 90 minutes. The first 30 minutes involves completing required paperwork. At the top of the hour you will meet with your therapist for approximately 45-50 minutes.
When you arrive for your appointment, please sign your first name only on the sign in sheet at the reception window. In the basket below the window there will be an envelope with your first name. Please take this envelope and begin completing the paperwork inside. This may take you approximately 30 minutes. If you have any questions regarding this paperwork, please ring the bell to ask the office staff. If your appointment is after 4 PM, you will need to ask your therapist when he/she greets you at the top of the hour, as our office staff may have left for the day.
The first session, or Intake, your therapist will ask you a series of questions to complete your Biopsychosocial history. Basically, this is a history of yourself and your family. This history is an important tool utilized by your therapist to contour your treatment plan specifically to fit your needs, goals, and objectives regarding treatment. After completing this history, a treatment plan will be constructed and discussed.
Please remember, the first appointment is more of an interview than a therapy session. The second, third, and subsequent sessions will be focused on helping you to attain the goals and objectives set forth in your treatment plan. |
